Acclaimed as “one of the greatest animated films of all time” (Evening Standard) and “a brilliant film” (The Guardian), it remains one of the most beloved animated feature films of all time, now brought to life in a new musical.
Journey to Ancient Egypt, where a mother’s love leads one woman to send her child into the Nile River's unknown, and another woman to hide the truth about where he came from. The saga of Moses and his brother Ramses, two young men raised together as brothers in a kingdom of privilege, find themselves suddenly divided by a secret past. One must rule as Pharaoh, the other exiled, finally returning to his home and fighting to free his people from the bonds of slavery. From the plagues of Egypt to parting the red seas, this is a story that will change everything, forever. Featuring a soaring score by Schwartz, including ‘All I Ever Wanted,’ ‘Through Heaven's Eyes,’ ‘Footprints on the Sand,’ ‘Deliver Us,’ and, the Academy Award winning song, ‘When You Believe.’

The Prince of Egypt is not only a Rochester regional premiere, OFC Creations Theatre Center is one of the first performing arts centers in across the globe to be granted permission to present this show. Under the direction of Eric Vaughn Johnson, choreographed by Jenny Laroche featuring a cast of professional performers from across the country. The Prince of Egypt at OFC is one of the first theatres in the world to present the show, but let's journey back to the beginning!

In 1998 DreamWorks released the animated film as an adaptation of the Book of Exodus and follows the life of Moses from being a prince of Egypt to a prophet chosen by God to free his people. It was an instant hit with reviews including "one of the best-looking animated films ever made"

In 1998 the song "When You Believe" from the movie, performed by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, written by Stephen Schwartz (around the same time as Schwartz beginning to compose "Wicked") won an Academy Award for best song

In 2017, after years of audiences calling for the film to be turned into a live stage musical (similar to the 1997 Anastasia film), The Prince of Egypt made its stage debut at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley

In 2018 & 2019 the show had its international premiere in a Danish production at the Fredericia Theater, followed by the Royal Danish Theatre

In 2018 the Tuacahn Amphitheatre presented The Prince of Egypt starring Jacob Dickey as Moses (who will be reprising his role at OFC)

From 2020-2022 a significantly revised new version was created at the Dominion Theatre in London's West End, which is available to stream on BroadwayHD
